Meet Laura

As a real estate appraiser and Realtor, Laura Curtis helps families achieve the American dream of owning their own home. With Illinois’ second-highest property taxes in the nation, she witnesses firsthand the difficulty facing families to keep that dream within reach.

Laura understands Illinois needs leaders who will bring a fact-based approach to lower property taxes and reform the way Springfield conducts its business.

As a North Aurora Trustee, Laura has a record of fighting property tax hikes without compromising government services. She implemented fiscally conservative policies resulting in an upgrade of the Village’s bond rating to AA+ – one notch below the highest grade. Standard and Poor’s applauded the Village for its “strong budgetary performance.” In contrast, the state of Illinois’ S&P bond rating is BBB-, one level above junk status.

Before her election as Village Trustee in 2011, Laura served two years as an alternate member of the Kane County Board of Review. During property tax appeal proceedings, she heard directly from families how escalating property taxes negatively impacted their well-being and the community as a whole.

Laura and her husband Jason have been married for twenty-three years and live in North Aurora. Her interests include attending live music concerts, reading, travel, and spending time outdoors.

Laura will implement fiscally conservative policies and fight to end the tax and spend culture in Springfield.
